Bathroom Lighting

Since bathrooms usually do not offer much natural light, the lighting choices for a bathroom become very important. Bathroom lighting should provide enough task lighting around the sink area for activities such as shaving and putting on makeup. Other places in the bathroom do not need as much emphasis on brightness and the lighting design can be used for more decorative purposes.

Skylights are a nice way add natural light to a bathroom, if you prefer to have lighting coming from the outdoors. Skylights can provide the room with relatively bright light throughout the daytime, but there will still be a need for some type of lighting at night.

The bathroom lighting design around the sink area commonly consists of vanity lights or a bath bar.  These lights are made up of about three lights placed closely together that focus the light source near the mirror area making it very bright.  Vanity lights come in a variety of styles, shapes, and sizes and can give your sink area a look that compliments existing features.

Nightlights are a nice touch to a bathroom for convenience as well as a decorative touch.

Extra caution must be taken when installing lighting in a bathroom because of the sink, bathtub, and shower. These areas that contain water create safety issues and concerns when it comes to bathroom lighting.
