Garage Lighting

Have you ever really given much thought about how important garage lighting can be? Your garage is an area of your home that can serve many different purposes, and lighting is necessary for function, security, and even decoration. There are many different types of lights to consider when lighting your garage but which type is the best? Well, it depends on the area and what it is going to be used for.

Just like inside of your home, the garage can be divided into separate areas. Designing the perfect garage lighting for each area can often times be overlooked when installing fixtures. For example, the kitchen requires adequate lighting so that preparing food is done in a safe and highly visible way. Therefore, selecting proper lights for the kitchen is highly important. Just the same, choosing enough lighting for a workstation or workshops within a garage is just as important. The lighting choice for parking the car and the lighting outside the garage is also important to consider.

Garage Lighting Ideas

Poor lighting can cause unnecessary frustration. Have you ever tried to gauge a tire or check the oil in dim lighting? If so, you have probably felt the frustration from not having enough light. There are many garage lighting ideas to improve the visibility within a garage but the best scenario is having a well lit garage at all times, day or night.

One of the very best ways to add proper light to a garage is to install a minimum of two fluorescent lights. These lights are very bright and energy efficient. Fluorescent lights are large in size and provide light to even the darkest corners of a garage.

Another terrific light source to have in a garage is a drop light. These lights are mobile and can be moved around wherever you may need them. Drop lights come in both florescent and incandescent varieties. The cost varies depending on various features such as size and durability. Clip-on task lights are another option for a moveable source.

A popular lighting idea that some homeowners and shop owners are turning to for good daytime light is skylights. Most garages do not have windows which make daytime lighting nonexistent. However, with the addition of a few skylights, the garage is transformed into a sun filled room with plenty of light to go around.

You don't have to limit your garage lighting to just one type. Just like inside your home, your garage can have a combination of lights to light up every area within the garage. Adding fluorescent lights with drop lights and skylights make the garage a well lit area during the day or night. With the addition of outdoor garage lighting and even the lights within a garage door opener, security and safety in and around the garage will be enough to make even the dimmest of areas bright.
